The Challenge
What We Were Brought In To Solve
Eyepic Eye Care was opening a new optometrist practice in Park Slope from a bare shell. The space needed security cameras, a full alarm system, a video intercom, structured network cabling, background music, and digital signage -- all installed, tested, and operational before the doors opened to patients. There was no existing infrastructure to build from, and the grand opening date was fixed. Every system had to work on day one.
The PAX Solution
How We Delivered
We built the full technology stack from rough-in to finish. For cameras, we ran Cat6 to every position and installed a DW Spectrum 8TB NVR with Samsung indoor cameras covering the sales floor, exam rooms, and entrance, plus a Vivotek 180-degree panoramic camera covering the exterior. The alarm system used a 2GIG EDGE touchscreen panel with door and window sensors, a glassbreak detector, PIR motion, a wireless panic button, and a Z-Wave smart deadbolt on the rear door. The front entrance got an Akuvox SIP video door phone with a 7-inch indoor monitor and an electric door strike for remote unlock. Network infrastructure included dual Ubiquiti UniFi switches, two CAT5E patch panels, a UniFi AC-PRO wireless access point, and a 1500VA UPS for power protection. We finished with 6.5-inch in-ceiling speakers on a Wi-Fi streaming amplifier for background audio and a Samsung 55-inch display with a digital signage player at the reception area.

Cloud-managed and on-premises security systems both work. The right choice depends on your site count, your internet reliability, your budget structure, and how much control you want over your own data. LPR Cameras Are a Useful Tool -- Not a Gate Policy
License plate recognition can speed up access, improve your logs, and flag suspicious vehicles. But any facility that relies on a plate read alone to open the gate is vulnerable in ways that are easy to exploit and hard to detect. Here is what LPR can and cannot do -- and how to deploy it responsibly.
Your Cameras Are on Your Network -- and That Is a Problem
Most IP camera installations put the cameras on the same network as everything else in the building. Some cameras actively phone home to manufacturer servers. Here is how a properly installed system keeps your cameras isolated -- and why it matters more than most operators realize.
